Composite deck built in Walford, Iowa

Composite That Lasts

Composite decking doesn't need staining, sealing, or sanding. No splinters, no rotting boards, no spring maintenance routine. It looks good from day one and stays that way.

Most manufacturers back their composite boards with a 25 to 50 year warranty. We build with wood too if that's what you want, but most folks who see composite side by side don't go back.

We sit down at your kitchen table and design it with you. Within 24 hours, you get full 3D renders of exactly what your deck will look like. We'll stake out the footprint in your yard so you can walk the real space.

You keep the renders and the plan no matter what you decide. No pressure, no games.

Aluminum railing detail on composite deck

Built For Iowa Weather

We know what holds up through Iowa winters and what doesn't. That's why we use aluminum railing and powder-coated hardware that won't rust, warp, or peel after a few freeze-thaw cycles.

Every material choice comes down to one question: will it still look good and work right five, ten, twenty years from now?

Common Questions

Composite vs. wood — which should I choose?

Composite costs more upfront but never needs staining, sealing, or sanding. No splinters, no rot, no warping. Wood is less expensive initially but needs annual maintenance and will eventually need boards replaced. Most of our customers go composite and never look back.

How long does a composite deck last?

Most composite decking manufacturers warranty their product for 25 to 50 years. The aluminum railing and fasteners we use are equally durable. A well-built composite deck will outlast the mortgage.

How long does it take to build a deck?

A typical deck takes about one to two weeks from demo (if replacing) to final walkthrough. Larger or multi-level decks may take a bit longer. We'll give you a specific timeline at the design session.

Do I need a permit for a deck in Iowa?

In most cases, yes. Cedar Rapids, Marion, Iowa City, and most surrounding municipalities require a building permit for a new deck or major rebuild. We handle the permit process for you.

Can you build on top of my old deck?

Sometimes, but usually no. If the existing framing and footings are solid and up to code, we can sometimes resurface. More often, starting fresh gives you a better result and a proper warranty. We'll inspect and give you an honest answer.

What about a screen room or sunroom later?

We build decks with future additions in mind. If there's a chance you'll want a screen room or sunroom down the road, we'll design the deck's footings and framing to support it so you're not starting over.
